Dear John,
We would like to thank you for accepting the walking stick that my Dad (Chris Briggs) handmade.
We got your name when we met you but we forgot to introduce ourselves.
It was my daughter Arianah Purton who chose you to give the walking stick to, my son Aiex who you shared his lollipop with, my Mum Lena and myself Colleen.
Arianah was walking in the parade with her Girl Guides group that day, she was so proud to be marching.
We had been telling her about her Great Grand Poppy (Thomas Henry Williams) and she was sad because she never got to meet him. He passed 8 months before she was born.
When she spotted you she knew you were the one she wanted to meet, she was over the moon.
"He is a real soldier Mum, a hero", I held back the tears. My Poppy would have been so proud of her.
You have made the image of my Poppy a little more real for her and I thank you for that.
Thank you for taking the time to talk to us that day, it really means more than you can imagine.
Kind Regards
Colleen & Arianah Purton.
